wild horses

Little Scarlet has been head over heels in love with horses for a looong time now, so I wasn't the least bit surprised when she asked for a horse cake for her birthday. The problem was finding just the right horse cake. We found many strange-looking horse heads, several My Little Pony's which were deemed "too baby" and a few rectangles with the horse rendered in icing on top. After checking out all the possibilities I honestly figured she would go with the pink horse head with some glittery mane action. I was stunned when she said, "Just make it round and we'll put some horses on top." Have I told you how much I love this child?

We made a chocolate cake with white buttercream "snow" and a few snow-covered trees. The trees are cake batter baked in ice-cream cones, an idea that came from this month's MSL.The horses are from Little Scarlet's personal stash and I'm sure are painted with lead paint straight from China.

I'm pretty sure that I would end up eating the trees before the cake....

I'm making a birthday cake this afternoon for my daughter...I think I may copy the horse idea--at six, she's starting to like the "grown-up" ponies better thank My Little Pony, and this is a perfect idea!

Aww, that's adorable. :) Happy birthday to Little Scarlet!

I let Mr. 'Ville pick out the cakes he wants for his birthday, too, although most years I regret it... Once I had to make him a sponge cake, in the shape of West Virginia (which was not easy to cut out, btw), top layer colored pink and flavored raspberry; bottom layer colored orange and flavored orange.
*shakes head

This was such a sweet, heart-melting post ... which is why I laughed out loud when I got to the last sentence! :) Happy Birthday to little Scarlet.
