the best thing for allergies

Period.

Get one*. Use it**. Free yourself from snot.

*You can get one at just about any pharmacy for less than twenty bucks. You could even use a small teapot.

**I do not advise using anything other than uniodized salt and warm water in your pot.

Seriously.

I balked at the $20 price tag, but it works and I will never buy decongestant again.

You can call me Betty, or Bethany, or Beth ...Just don't call me late for dinner. said...

I am getting one for my suffering hubby, for his birthday no less...
Nothing says "i love you" like an anti snot pot.

I don't have allergies, but I bet it would work great on sinus infections too...

This might be a stupid question, but why do you recommend uniodized salt?

Um, I don't know. They told me to use some special kind of $5 salt or their "special" formula to put in it. I watched the above video and decided I shouldn't put coffee, liquor or crack in it and came up with "uniodized salt". Sinus infections? Yes. As for what you put in the thing? Girl, that's up to you. I'm in no way responsible. I only know contaminated homebrew is bad.

Haha, whoops! I guess what I really meant to ask is if there was a good reason for me *not* to use the iodized salt I already have on hand. I thought maybe iodine was not cool with your nasal passages, or something.

But good advice nevertheless! I'll keep it in mind. ;)

Oh. In that case, I think you want to use the purest salt possible, with no additives or anti-caking agents. I'm guessing that that its gentler on already jacked-up nasal passages. Kosher salt and pickling salt are good.

Iodized salts will tear the hell out of your nasal passages. As someone who suffers terrible sinus infections (thank you Ohio River and Ohio River industry), I can tell you iodized salt hurts like something fierce.

Not to contradict you or anything Scarlet. But sea salt might be an even better choice- that's what Gramma always used on me when I was a kid.

Sea salt is the way to go. It took me a while to get used to the thing, but I swear by it. It washes all the allergens out of your nasal passages before they have time to make me suffer. I always forget to start using them right when the pollen comes out, though.
